Iraq
Includes all Iraq Relief and Reconstruction Funds (IRRF). Some IRRF funds support Iraqi refugees in other countries.

Yemen [Republic of Yemen]
The Peoples Democratic Republic of Yemen and the Yemen Arab Republic were formally unified as the Republic of Yemen in 1990. Historical data for the former Yemen, P.D.R. and the former Yemen, Arab Republic are included under Yemen, Republic of.

Zimbabwe [Republic of Zimbabwe]
Includes assistance to Southern Rhodesia during the period this area was part of the Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland.

East Africa (not specified)

Barbados

FY 2005 assistance to the Asia region increased due to the devastating December 2004 tsunami and earthquake that affected a number of countries in southeast Asia. The largest amounts of funding go to assistance for Indonesia and Sri Lanka, with smaller programs in India, Thailand, and the Maldives.

Bangladesh [People's Republic of Bangladesh]
Bangladesh, formerly the State of East Pakistan, became independent in 1971. Prior to 1972 data are included in Pakistan.

Cambodia [Kingdom of Cambodia]
Excludes aid to Indochina Associated States prior to partition. Data prior to 1955 appear on the page for "Asia (not specified)".

China [People's Republic of China]
In 1979, the U.S. Government recognized the People's Republic of China as the only China and the position that Taiwan is part of China. Prior to 1980, assistance to China is included under China (Taiwan).

East Timor [Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste]

India [Republic of India]
After partition in 1947, Pakistan agreed to repay $38.7 million; but it is not possible to distribute the 1946 portion between the two countries.

Japan
Data for the Foreign Assistance Act Period represent transfer of properties provided under the Reversion Agreement when the Ryukyu Islands were returned to Japan on May 15, 1972.

Croatia
Croatia assumed a portion of debt as part of the reallocation of indebtedness of the former Soviet Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (SFRY) to the succeeding states. The Paris Club developed a formula for allocating this indebtedness and Croatia signed a Bilateral Debt Rescheduling Agreement on February 1, 1996.

Czech Republic [Czech Republic]
In 1993 Czechoslovakia divided into the Czech and the Slovak Republics. Data prior to 1993 are included under Eastern Europe (not specified).

Montenegro
Montenegro declared its independence in June 2006. Data prior to 2006 is included in Serbia and Montenegro, Former.

Serbia
Serbia declared its independence in June 2006. Data prior to 2006 is included in Serbia and Montenegro, Former..

Serbia and Montenegro, Former
Serbia and Montenegro, Slovenia, Croatia, and The Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia all declared their independence from Yugoslavia in 1991. In 1992, Bosnia and Herzegovina declared its independence and the remaining republics of Serbia and Montenegro declared a new "Federal Republic of Yugoslavia" (FRY). The U.S. Government subsequently provided assistance to each new country. In 2003, the official name changed from Yugoslavia (Serbia/Montenegro) to Serbia and Montenegro.

Prior to 1993, data are reported under Serbia and Montenegro, Former. Beginning in 1993, Slovenia, Croatia, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia and Bosnia and Herzegovina are reported separately.

In June 2006 Montenegro and Serbia officially declared independence and became independent countries. Data prior to 2006 is included in Serbia and Montenegro, Former. 2006 data is reported to either Montenegro or Serbia, when available.

Slovakia [Slovak Republic]

Assistance to West Berlin from 1953 to 1962 is also included under Germany.
